Most of us have achieved a good measure of success, but what does it take to become super successful? What do wildly successful people all share in common? We often think that those who are super successful have something special that we don’t have.
But having coached many super successful people over the years, I’ve noticed that even though highly successful people all share certain traits, they are not super-human traits.
You can identify and further develop these traits if you truly want to become super successful. Yes, it’ll take a lot of work, persistence, and determination, but you can become one of the super successful!
Let’s explore the top seven traits of those who are super successful and how you can develop them too.
1. Perseverance
Perseverance is having an unwavering commitment to staying focused and motivated even when results don’t come immediately or easily as expected. This trait will ensure that when obstacles inevitably arise during your journey towards success, you don’t give up! Instead, you persist until you reach the finish line despite any challenges that come up along the way.
Those who are super successful understand (and accept) that there will be hardships along the way and are willing to face them head-on. If you want to foster this trait, try setting a goal for yourself and sticking with it even when things get tough.
Another great way to build perseverance is by looking at something that did not work out, more commonly referred to as a ‘failure’ and see it for what it really is. Failure is a result you didn’t want. That’s all, nothing more or less.
It’s an opportunity to learn from the experience, change your approach and try again instead of giving up altogether after one (or more) missteps.
As strange as it may sound…when you see ‘failure’ simply as a result you didn’t want, you’re able to persevere more easily and becoming super successful is inevitable.
2. Determination
Determination is the quality of being resolute in accomplishing whatever you set out to do. Super successful people use their determination as fuel to keep going even when faced with adversity or opposition from others.
To strengthen this trait in yourself, practice setting small goals for yourself and then take concrete steps to reach them, no matter the obstacles that may obstruct your path or how hard it gets along the way.
3. Self-Confidence
Self-confidence is all about believing in yourself and your abilities, no matter what anyone else says. Highly successful people have a strong sense of self-confidence which gives them the courage to take risks and try new things – without fear of failure or rejection – because they are comfortable with who they are and their capabilities.
To become more self-confident, start by recognizing your own strengths and talents (no matter how small) and remove any self-limiting beliefs that are standing in your way. (Want some help with that? Have a look at the Remove Your Self-Limiting Beliefs, Shift into a Higher Gear program here.)
Focus on building up your skillset by expanding upon what you already know and take on challenging tasks that push you out of your comfort zone, then… notice how much more confident you become!
4. Focus
It’s easy to get distracted by all the noise around us but highly successful people know how important focus is for achieving goals efficiently and effectively. They don’t allow themselves to get sidetracked by anything irrelevant – they stay laser focused on their end objective until they reach it!
To help cultivate this trait in yourself, set aside some time each day where you can focus solely on what needs to be done – without letting yourself be disturbed by any distractions or interruptions from outside sources such as social media or emails.
5. Discipline
Discipline is about staying focused on a task until it is completed without getting distracted by other activities or tasks that may be more enjoyable yet less important in this moment.
It’s also about having control over oneself (self-discipline) and understanding what needs to be done in order to reach one’s goals.
Self-discipline is also instrumental in helping you stay motivated despite obstacles along the way because you recognize that hard work pays off in the long run!
To help develop more discipline within yourself, start by setting yourself smaller tasks or goals that require dedication over time – this could be anything from reading before bed each night or exercising every morning at 6am.
6. Adaptability
Adaptability is being able to adjust quickly and efficiently in any situation while still maintaining control over the outcome – whether positive or negative – and making changes or adjustments in response to a situation presented to you.
No two situations are identical so having an ability to adapt quickly is essential for success as different circumstances require different actions/strategies/approaches.
Super successful individuals also know when it’s time for change – whether it’s a shift in approach/ strategy/ tactics etc. They stay agile which helps them move forward despite changes outside of their control (such as market conditions).
To help foster adaptability within yourself – practice thinking ‘outside the box’ – push yourself out of your comfort zone and try something new every once in a while, (whether it’s a hobby/ job project/ team task etc.) – this will give you an insight into how different situations require different approaches and strategies which will ultimately make you more adaptable and better equipped when facing changes down the line!
In order to gain adaptability, start with accepting change as something inevitable rather than seeing it as something negative that must be avoided at all costs; this mindset shift will better equip you for handling surprises as they come, without getting too thrown off course by them.
7. Creativity
Creativity isn’t just about painting pretty pictures; creativity involves thinking ‘outside the box’ in order to create innovative solutions previously unseen and solving problems others may not have been able to.
It’s about finding solutions through experimentation and risk taking which leads us into uncharted territory – allowing us opportunities we didn’t previously have access too – such opportunities are often game changing and thus essential for success.
Creative thinkers aren’t afraid of taking risks and embracing uncertainty – instead they view failure as an opportunity for growth and development – thus learning from mistakes quickly and moving onto bigger and better projects.
To help encourage creative thinking within yourself – start by writing down ideas no matter how random – then look at these ideas critically and experiment with ways of turning these into reality.
Often creativity starts with examining current processes involved in performing certain tasks; then finding ways to tweak those same processes, make them more efficient so that better outcomes can be achieved overall.
Creative thinking isn’t solely about using your imagination. As mentioned, it also involves being innovative and using technology / data / analytics / resources etc. to find new solutions. So, coming up with creative ideas may seem daunting at first – but it’s actually quite simple once you start experimenting. Make sure you dedicate some time each week towards exploring new concepts and possibilities. Who knows maybe one day one of these will lead to greater things…
Becoming one of the super successful takes a lot of work and dedication…and most importantly trusting yourself enough to keep going despite any setbacks along the way.
Developing or strengthening these seven traits won’t happen overnight but with patience, practice, and persistencethey’ll become a natural part of who you are.
So go forth confidently knowing that when you put your mind (and heart) into whatever it is you wish to achieve…and you give it your all…you can become super successful too!
